They will be in-conversation with our friend\, graphic novel illustrator John Jennings (Hugo and Eisner award winner for graphic novel adaptations of Parable of the Sower and Kindred). \n\n\n\nIn this horror graphic novel written by Joyner and illustrated by Anthony Pugh\, American Gods meets Get Out in a dark retelling of the West African legend of Anansi the Spider. Devour tells the story of the Turner family\, who move to Alabama to care for their ailing matriarch\, Vassie\, when she begins suffering from dementia. But Vassie isn’t just any old lady; she’s the last of a line of powerful root women who have been caring for the community since her ancestors were first captured and enslaved by white plantation owners. Patsy\, the eldest daughter in the family\, is immediately suspicious; the locals’ fear and superstition of her grandmother leads Patsy to take a closer look at the Turner family home\, and what she finds is beyond her wildest nightmares. \n\n\n\nJazmine Joyner is a Black disabled nonbinary femme who has been working in various parts of the comics industry for years. From being the first Black woman on the West Coast to own a comic shop to being an award-winning comics journalist\, they have committed their life to their love of comics. They are based in Southern California and have written for Women Write About Comics\, The Comics MNT\, and others. Devour is their debut graphic novel. \n\n\n\nJohn Jennings is a Professor of Media and Cultural Studies at the University of California at Riverside. Jennings is co-editor of the Eisner Award-winning collection The Blacker the Ink: Constructions of the Black Identity in Comics and Sequential Art. Jennings is also a 2016 Nasir Jones Hip Hop Studies Fellow with the Hutchins Center at Harvard University. Jennings' projects include the Eisner-winning\, Bram Stoker Award-winning\, New York Times best-selling graphic novel adaptation of Octavia Butler's classic dark fantasy novel Kindred. Queer Alliance of UCR and the LGBT Resource Center invite area high school students and junior high/middle school students to the 20th Annual Pride Prom. This QA Youth Outreach Event provides a safe space for a fabulous evening of music\, dancing\, food\, and fun. Dress for comfort\, or dress to impress. A photo booth is on-site and refreshments provided.  \n\n\n\nParents\, teachers\, and adult advocates for LGBTQ+ youth are also welcome. Doors open at 6:30pm for check-in. Please arrive by 7pm for the required presentation and panel before the dance begins. Bring your raincoats and decorated umbrellas!  \n\n\n\nJoin us for a collaborative event between Riverside Pride & the Transgender Health & Wellness Center of Riverside for a day of activities to commemorate the Transgender Day of Visibility. Transgender Day of Visibility (“TDoV”) is an annual event occurring on March 31 dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide\, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society. Due to the day falling on Easter Sunday in 2024\, we're observing this equally important day on March 30th. The day's activities start with a Rally for Rights at 1pm at the City of Riverside City Hall building (9th & Main St in downtown Riverside). The rally will be followed by a March for Civil Rights to the Riverside Civil Rights Institute\, where Transgender Health & Wellness welcomes you with a Celebration of Joy featuring Transgender performers\, food and music!

Join the efforts! \n\n\n\nHow to Get Involved:\n\n\n\nAttend the next Riverside County Board of Education meeting on Wednesday\, October 4th and make a public comment. Help us ensure the Board of Education knows we stand with LGBTQ+ students and want safe school environments for all. When attending and commenting\, be sure to clearly state “I live in Riverside County” or “I'm a resident of ______” to  raise your comment above others who are not a part of our community. We've seen almost all of these meetings across the country be taken over by protesters who do not live in the communities the meeting is intended for. DESCRIPTION:This is a partner even that Riverside LGBTQ+ Pride is participating in. \n\n\n\nThe Youth United Conference was instituted to create an advocacy platform to identify and address the needs of LGBTQ youth in the Inland Empire. Youth United gathers LGBTQ youth from across the Inland Empire for an annual convening of leadership\, fellowship and activism. Addressing the mental and sexual health topics that most affect LGBTQ youth\, this conference provides a safe and healing space for LGBTQ youth in the region. \n\n\n\nTo attend the event as a student\, vendor\, presenter\, chaperone\, volunteer\, or sponsor\, scan the QR in the image above. Signed Permission Slip is required for student attendance. \n\n\n\nRiverside LGBTQ+ Pride will be leading two workshops\, participate in the resource fair and a panel. Come join us!

DESCRIPTION:This is a partner event that Riverside LGBTQ+ Pride is attending. \n\n\n\nSave the date because we have a date at #OATF – Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival! Join us as OATF welcome them into the Out at the Fair® family on Saturday\, February 18\, 2023\, all day on the Pageant Stage. OATF® is the official LGBTQ+ festival of the Fair industry filled with a full day of Family-Friendly entertainment.  \n\n\n\nStop by the OATF® Booth for a free rainbow flag (while supplies last). Join OATF at the Pageant Stage starting at 10am until 10pm for a full day of family-friendly entertainment including the Glam Show! \n\n\n\nGates open at 10am and Out at the Fair® is included with your general admission Fair ticket. \n\n\n\nRiverside LGBTQ+ Pride will have a booth at the fair. We're looking for volunteers to help us staff the booth. Volunteering will grant you access to the fair for the whole day for free\, so you're welcome to check out the rest of the fair when it's not your shift.
